Kat Katz (they/them) is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in Maryland. They received a Bachelor’s degree in biology emphasizing the genetics and neurophysiology of mental illness from Smith College. After several years working in community mental health as a residential counselor, case manager, and community support specialist, Kat continued their education at Smith College and achieved a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree.
Kat has experience helping people who live with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and developmental disabilities. As an intern at Sound Behavioral Health in Seattle and Johns Hopkins Community Psychiatry Program, Kat provided individual and group psychotherapy to diverse populations virtually and in-person. Their past volunteer experience includes counseling people on a suicide hotline and giving information and emotional support to people on the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) HelpLine.
Kat uses a strength-based, multifaceted approach to problem solving and treating mental health conditions, through a multicultural lens. They draw from psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral (CBT), and narrative therapies to adapt tools and techniques to each individual. Kat collaborates with clients to help them build life skills and cultivate healthy boundaries and relationships. They encourage creativity, artistic expression, and mindfulness in coping with mental health challenges.
Kat works with individuals in their late teens through all stages of adulthood. They identify as non-binary and queer (click here to learn about gender and sexual identities) and enjoy working with the LGBTQIA+ community. They are sex-, kink-, and consensual non-monogamy-positive.
In their free time, Kat writes poetry, sings, and practices yoga. They especially appreciate cuddling up with their kitties and a good book.
Kat is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in MD and working toward their independent clinical professional license (LCSW-C) under the supervision of Courtney Mack, LCSW-C.
