“If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail”- Abraham Maslow
Monique Campbell is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Maryland. She graduated with her Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland Baltimore and Bachelor of Social Work from the University of the District of Columbia. Monique has had extensive experience in providing outpatient services and directing programs for various agencies in the county. This experience includes counseling services, psychiatric rehabilitation, wraparound, and assertive community treatment. Monique is most passionate about working with individuals and couples. Building on strengths, she utilizes a solution-focused approach to help those in pain or conflict look at their problem from a different lens, and then motivate individuals and the collective to take action for change.
Monique specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, where the goal is to aid her clients in connecting how thoughts and feelings influence each other in order to change patterns of thinking and behavior that is behind their difficulties, therefore influencing the way they feel. She is trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, focusing on the acceptance of your experience as a way to reassure and balance the work needed to change negative behaviors. And applying a trauma informed and culturally competent approach, Monique also uses psychodynamic psychotherapy that aims to tap into client’s unconscious processes as they manifest in daily behavior to help clients gain self-awareness and understanding of past and present behavior. Monique has experience working with couples and families; she has experience working with clients going through depression, anxiety, attachment issues, substance use issues, self-worth issues, marital and familial woes, job dissatisfaction, and those needing life coaching. Utilizing her client’s strengths, Monique and her client will work together to build a tool box of interpersonal skills, healthy self-expression skills, and coping skills to ultimately reestablish trust within couples and families, reignite intimacy where it has dwindled, and to find purpose and overall peace and joy in life. Monique is a multicultural therapist and a LGBTQIA+ ally; she strives to be inclusive of all.
