Alicia Beltran, LCPC, Director
As a nationally certified sex therapist and certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist, Alicia has experience and expertise working with a wide range of sexual issues, relationship & attachment issues, and traumatic experiences. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Community Counseling from Johns Hopkins School of Education and post-graduate degree in Holistic Sex Therapy from the Institute for Sexuality Education and Enlightenment. She is certified as a Sex Therapist by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) and a certified EMDR therapist through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).
Alicia specialize in working with individuals who want to learn to manage and process depression and anxiety symptoms and heal from past traumatic events in order to live more fulfilling lives. She works with couples who desire a more deepened connection, who struggle with desire discrepancy, and who wish to repair from difficult events. She also works with clients who are in midst of a crisis of infidelity, relationship strain, sexual dysfunction, or who are exploring their identities. She works with individuals who struggle with a sexual dysfunction, gender or orientation confusion, or who experience their sexual behavior as out of control. She is an ally to LGBTQA+, to individuals in open relationships/consensual non-monogamy and an ally for social justice. Alicia is bilingual (Spanish) and bicultural. She strives to respect various cultures and identities and learn more from her clients via the work that they do together. Her goal is to provide a supportive therapeutic environment regardless of sexual orientation, sexual expression, gender expression, relationship orientation, or gender identity.
Alicia’s career has consisted of psychotherapy in outpatient settings; she’s worked with the uninsured in an integrated medical setting, in sexual assault and domestic violence centers, with offenders of domestic violence, and for fee-for-services outpatient agencies in the community. In her advanced career, she’s devoted her time to improving sexual health and healing trauma. She is also an educator and consultant; her plan is to continue supervising and teaching to bring about more sex-positive clinicians in the community. She continues on a higher education track focused on human sexuality and she continues training with the Sensorimotor Institute. The overall modalities Alicia uses are sex-positive approaches, mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills, Sensorimotor psychotherapy, and Imago and Gottman Method approached for couple’s therapy. Alicia is a Board Approved Supervisor for LGPCs in the state of Maryland and an EMDR consultant-in-training.
