Shamree Willis, LGPC

Individual, Couples, & Family Psychotherapist

Shamree is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor in Maryland who obtained her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. She has experience working with individuals who suffer from depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, personality disorders, those who have a history of trauma, and those who have encountered hurtful relationships or have experienced trouble in attachment throughout their life. Shamree also understands that day to day stress can be difficult to manage and works with her clients to obtain and maintain balance, healthy boundaries, and satisfaction in stressful areas of their life.

Shamree‘s approach is person centered and inclusive of working with clients of all racial and cultural backgrounds; she is an ally to the LGBTQA+ community and inclusive when working with clients of various sexual preferences and sexual expression. She operates primarily from a CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) approach (integrating and alternating methods when necessary) because she believes our own thoughts and the way we perceive things have the greatest impact on how we live our lives. Shamree believes that unresolved trauma can hinder progression in life and cause us to become trapped in areas of our lives that we are unsatisfied with. Because of this, she works diligently to help connect the dots between past and present experiences to facilitate understanding, acceptance, and promote growth. Due to her own personal experiences, Shamree understands what it‘s like to feel lost or stuck and how difficult it can be to break free of unhealthy habits to incorporate new, healthy ones.

Shamree utilizes the approach that best fits the needs of her clients including (but not limited to) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Trauma Focused CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Narrative Therapy; Shamree is currently training with the EMDR Institute. Shamree enjoys working with individuals ranging from late adolescence through all stages of adulthood. Shamree’s presence is inviting, unconditionally caring, and unbiased. She meets others where they are and allows them to move toward improvement at the pace that is comfortable for them. Shamree perceives therapy as a lighthouse, in which you are directed away from harmful and maladaptive coping skills and guided into a safe space that promotes healthy coping skills and lifelong satisfaction.

“I am not afraid of storms, for I’m learning how to sail my ship.”
