Shonna is a nationally certified counselor (NCC) and Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in Maryland. She is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and also the Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors of Maryland (LCPCM). Shonna received her masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University.
Shonna is passionate about working with young adults, individuals and families toward healing and growth. Shonna is an LGBTQIA+ ally and prioritizes cultural awareness. Shonna also works with couples toward creating greater intimacy, improving communication, and aiding couples to gain tools toward lessening stress in parenting and creating more improved connection in relationships.
Shonna specializes in treating anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD), eating disorders, body image issues and a variety of social, emotional and behavioral problems.
Her therapeutic methods are tailored to each individual and family. They include Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBSR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills, Expressive Therapy techniques and a family systems approach. She also incorporates integrative evidence-based holistic therapies into treatment (e.g. physical activity, yoga, nutrition, mindfulness meditation).
